In Where the Rules End Eliza Cordova is handed a Rule Book by a wise elder. She lives by its rules, takes them to a higher level, and starts writing down the ones who break them. Survival becomes her method, and her method becomes a weapon: an eight-shot ledger, cold as steel. It does not forget. It does not miss. It holds on until the truth brings them down.

Cinematic, grounded, and relentless, this is a series about family, control, faith, and the moment a person decides to stop running.

When the world tells her to keep her head down, Eliza chooses the living.

The Meadowbrook Affair.jpeg

The Meadowbrook Affair is a sharp, funny standalone story about love, timing, family expectations, and the dangerous comfort of a well-made plan. Kelsea Joe Goode knows exactly what kind of life she wants, but as polished Southern manners collide with Texas bluntness and private longing, she begins to discover that the perfect story may not be the same thing as the truest one

The First Lesson
A Short Story by KR Peace

Before Eliza understood the rules, someone had already decided she would need them.

Juanita saw the truck before Eliza did and hated the way it slowed.
White. Dusty. Slow enough to look accidental.
It came up the lane without hurry, no horn, no wave, no reason to notice it unless you had lived long enough to know what men looked like when they were pretending not to look. The colonia was already awake around them. Radios argued through open windows. A dog barked at a bicycle and then at nothing. Somebody farther down the lane shook a rug hard enough to lift dust into the light. Morning should have belonged to ordinary things. Instead, the truck turned the yard into a question.

Meet K. R. Peace

K.R. Peace writes fiction shaped by close observation of people, systems, relationships, and the quiet rules that govern daily life under pressure. Whether writing border-country thrillers, romantic suspense, or sharp family drama, Peace is drawn to the moments when ordinary choices reveal what people truly value.

Peace’s work is deeply influenced by a lifelong habit of watching people closely: how they speak, how they hide, how they love, how they protect themselves, and how they behave when pressure strips away performance. That observational eye informs the Choose the Living series, where power, consequences, land, family, faith, and survival collide. It also shapes standalones such as Any Woman and The Meadowbrook Affair, where marriage, family expectations, social polish, loyalty, and private truth become their own forms of suspense.

Peace’s wife remains one of the strongest inspirations behind the work: a living reminder that love, faith, humor, endurance, and devotion are not soft themes, but powerful forces. Her influence can be felt in stories where danger may drive the plot, but human connection gives the story its weight.

Raised around farming, ranching, and the heart of the Permian Basin, Peace has witnessed the oil boom, the strain it places on land and families, and the shifting realities along the southern border. Much of Peace’s work grows from that ground: stories about power, consequence, resilience, and the small decisions people make when larger forces close in.
